White Sands National Park,
New Mexico
White Sands National Park consists of 275 square miles of gypsum sand dunes. These dunes can move up to 38 miles in a year. The plowed roads looked like snow, we almost expect it to be cold out.

The Salt Basin Dunes are reachable by driving around the south, then east end of the Guadalupe Mountains National Park. It provided an amazing view of the mountains.

Guadalupe Mountains National Park, Texas
The four highest peaks in Texas are located here. The Guadalupe Peak Trail leads to the highest point in Texas. (At 10+ hours for a round trip hike, we opted for shorter trails.)
The McKitttrick Canyon Natural trail passes along an arroyo and through junipers and other plants and animals that can tolerate true desert conditions.

Carlsbad Caverns National Park, New Mexico
The Big Room is the largest single cave chamber by volume in North America, spanning roughly 8.2 acres.
Hundreds of thousands of Brazilian free-tailed bats (estimated around 400,000) exit the cave nightly to hunt for insects. Cameras weren't allowed, but it looked like a bat tornado.
